What is Wordpress and how can it benefit me?

Wordpress is a free blogging platform at wordpress.com, but of much more interest to us is wordpress.org and the opportunity to use the free and highly-customisable wordpress software to run our websites on despite knowing little about PHP software development and MySQL relational databases. I’m using this book right now to help me delve deeper into the world of Wordpress and so far, the results are interesting, to say the least. I’ll publish more of my work later, but for now, the book is available at Amazon should you wish to give it a try.

Nostalgia

Nostalgia eh? It just ain’t what it used to be….okay okay, not the world’s greatest ever joke, but it’s fair to say a lot of time is spent on the net researching our favourite children’s toys or the TV programmes we never forgot but haven’t seen for years. With this in mind, it’s good to see a site like Al Nostalgia start up. This guy knows what he’s talking about, and has done many reviews for well known sites (no mentioning names though). I look forward to seeing much more from the guy in the long winter days ahead.

Michael Jackson Domains

Well the death of Michael Jackson may have surprised us all, but that didn’t stop a lot of enterprising domainers to dive in and start snapping up a variety of domain names with the words MICHAEL, JACKSON and finally DEAD/DEATH/RIP/REST PEACE, amongst others. Already looking on SEDO, I can see parked domains such as michaeljacksonconspiracytheory.co.uk, thrillermemories.com and whackojacko.net quickly appearing to fill the void left by Michael’s departure. These addresses may have short longevity, if that’s not a contradiction, but they may also generate some cash for a world now searching google (and snapping up memorabilia on ebay?) for news on the great man.

Someone has even snapped up michaeljacksonautopsy.com for gods sake!!!

Blogging on a particular topic which you are interested in or have an abnormal amount of knowledge on can be a fantastic way to monetise your site. Well, I’m really into investing, so I was able to knock up an Invest Gold Blog and a Tax Free Investing Blog. So by now, you are probably asking yourself; what are my interests? And how do I monetise my skills and interests? I found the book ProBlogger , by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett to be great for giving me ideas, such as even the use of Wordpress as per this site.

One of the best things you can do when trying to make money from domain name investing is to optimise your existing websites. There are a lot of elements that can make a difference to your Google Pagerank and get you near the top of list for searches relating to your main keywords.
